Koalas Class

Welcome to Koalas.

Welcome to our Koala page, sharing information about our bespoke in-school pastoral support service.

Koalas is our main nurture setting catering to all year groups across the school, offering breakfast and lunch clubs to facilitate smooth transitions throughout the day. In addition, Koalas provides daily classroom support, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) interventions, and meetings for young carers. Key Stage 1 students also have access to our Butterfly nurture room throughout the day, as well as during lunchtimes.

The Koalas Team is equipped with a wealth of knowledge and experience, including expertise in early childhood development, up-to-date first aid training, an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant), Drawing and Talking practitioner and extensive experience in safeguarding children - they have many years of experience working with children.

Koalas offers a breakfast club every morning to help children transition into school positively. Children from Reception to Year 6 are greeted with a friendly face and invited to sit at the table to enjoy a small breakfast snack and a chat with the Koala team. They can engage in play, colour, chat or have a quiet moment on the sofa. The children also have time just before the end of the school day to come and check in, talk about their day or share their amazing work.

Interventions are offered to children either on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, tailored to the individual needs of each child. These groups may focus on fostering friendships, developing self-regulation skills, enhancing emotional awareness, promoting resilience, improving conflict resolution abilities, building self-esteem and cultivating mindfulness practices.
